An important part of our work at NAMI Chicago is the role we play as advocates for better quality mental health services, a more comprehensive system that is fully funded, and the support services needed to live in recovery. We do this in many ways, including engaging our stakeholders to share their own experiences with the mental health system to highlight needs and gaps. There are many ways to be involved, including:

We will focus on several areas in our effort to improve the mental health system. These priorities are a result of a stakeholder needs assessment process NAMI Chicago undertook in the summer of 2016. This stakeholder process included roundtables, interviews, and a survey to learn more about the strengths, opportunities, needs and barriers within the current system. We’re excited be moving this process forward and focusing on:

  • Supporting efforts towards a comprehensive crisis response system
  • Strengthening mental health services
  • Enhancing support services that assist in recovery
  • Promoting early intervention and prevention
