Community Engagement Trainings

NAMI Chicago offers several trainings designed to help community organizations and community stakeholders improve their understanding of mental health within the community, develop wellness strategies for managing their own mental health, and provide tools for an organization to build a foundation that supports community wellness.

At its core, our mission is to increase awareness of NAMI Chicago as a trusted partner and promote programs through collaborative partnership, intentional community engagement, and responsive training that will enhance the participant’s knowledge of NAMI Chicago resources and ultimately reduce stigma and mental illnesses. Ending the Silence

Our Ending the Silence training is designed for middle and high school students. Our interative presentation helps audience members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental health condition. Students walk away understanding warning signs, facts and statistics and how to get help for themselves or a friend.

The training length for End the Silence is 50 minutes.


Bridges of Hope

Bridges of Hope is a course is designed for faith-based communities. Participants will learn to identify early mental health warning signs, how to support a loved one with a mental health condition, and ways for faith communities to create an open, welcoming culture around mental health.

The training length for Bridges of Hope is 50 minutes.

Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation

This course provides a comprehensive overview of crisis intervention, focusing on defining and recognizing various types of crises, including emotional, situational, and environmental. Participants will learn to identify early warning signs of potential crises and develop strategies to effectively intervene and manage these situations.

The training length for Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation is 2 hours.


Exposure to Trauma & Building Resilience 

Exposure to Trauma & Building Resilience course equips individuals with practical skills to support themselves and others in managing trauma and fostering a supportive environment that promotes intentional wellness. Participants dive into comprehensive exploration of trauma exposure and gain insight into effective resilience-building strategies to support mental wellness.

The training length for Exposure to Trauma & Building Resilience is 50 minutes.


Mental Health Awareness  

This course introduces NAMI Chicago, outlining who we are, what we do, resources we provide and introduce our helpline. Participants will learn how to understand and how to support their own mental health and learn to focus on the basic foundations of mental health and wellness. This training will also explore a variety of skills they can master to support themselves and others within their community.

The training length for Mental Health Awareness is 50 minutes.
