P.O. Joseph Cronin

This month, we recognize P.O. Joseph Cronin #9095, as the Chicago Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) certified-trained officer of the month.  Officer Cronin responded to a mental health-related service call involving an individual who was experiencing a crisis. When Officer Cronin arrived on scene, he noticed that the individual was becoming more anxious and afraid.  Officer Cronin spoke to the man in a reassuring, calm tone of voice to ensure he understood why the police were there and to help ease him. After the incident had been resolved, Officer Cronin gave a concerned family member of the individual a Chicago Police Mental Health Incident Notice Report and explained the mental health resource number on the report for NAMI Chicago.  Additionally, Officer Cronin provided the concerned family member with a NAMI Helpline card and additional resources.  Officer Cronin completed a Chicago Police Department Crisis Intervention Report to document the incident and ensured a follow-up to provide continual assistance to the individual and their family member. We recognized Office Cronin for his compassion, attention to duty, and support.
