Elena is the Director of Communications and Engagement at NAMI Chicago. With over a decade of experience in journalism and public health, she specializes in strategic messaging, crisis management, and behavior change marketing. Originally from Bulgaria, Elena has called Chicago home for the past 11 years.

Prior to joining NAMI, Elena served as the first-ever Marketing Director for the Chicago Department of Public Health, where she led branding and communications for over 20 program areas. She also played a key role in the City’s COVID-19 response, driving campaigns that reached millions and significantly boosted vaccination rates. Most recently, she led community safety initiatives, helping residents access vital resources, supporting youth, strengthening collaboration across Illinois agencies, and equipping community organizations with tools to scale violence prevention efforts.

Elena is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and co-chairs the Booth Public Speaking Club.
