Light the Darkness 2022 Honorees
Blue Door Neighborhood Center through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois helps members of the community navigate the healthcare system. Whether you’re a BCBSIL plan member or not, Blue Door Neighborhood Center can help you answer questions about how insurance works, and improve your physical, mental and social well-being. Blue Door Neighborhood Center offers a variety of resources and virtual class offerings--including meditation, yoga, diabetes workshops and more.
The Illinois Prison Project fights against regressive policies, racist practices, and a system that treats people as disposable with a mission focused on hope, compassion, and humanity. Through advocacy, public education, and direct representation of thousands of needlessly incarcerated people, IPP brings hope to and fight in community with incarcerated people and their loved ones for a brighter, more humane, more just system for us all. In just over two years, IPP freed 69 people from prison, successfully championed legislation creating Illinois' first medical release program, and provided free legal representation to hundreds of imprisoned people and their families.

He lives in Wisconsin with his partner and 4 children and enjoys all things in geek culture, basketball, and coffee. It is his belief that recovery is the process of returning to inherent worth and dignity.
