HONOREE HIGHLIGHT: INSTITUTE FOR NONVIOLENCE CHICAGO
The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago was founded in 2015 by Teny Gross, a lifelong peace activist who has built successful nonviolence models around the country. Their mission is to end the cycle of gun violence in Chicago.
Nonviolence Chicago is made up of over 100 street outreach workers, victim advocates, reentry specialists, behavioral health specialists, nonviolence trainers, case managers, and more. Nonviolence Chicago is a respected leader in gun violence prevention, intervention, and reduction. Their critical work heals and restores Chicago communities with the highest incidences of shootings. Their work has made a tremendous impact as part of Chicago’s public safety strategy because of their meaningful partnerships with community and research organizations, law enforcement, elected officials, and the business and philanthropic communities.
Guided by the nonviolence principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., they believe everyone has a part to play in ending gun violence. Their evidence-based model brings together civilians and organizations to implement wraparound services for high-risk individuals in Austin, West Garfield Park, Back of the Yards, and Brighton Park—bringing more peace, compassion, and hope to our streets and keeping Chicago safe for generations.
Receiving the award in honor of the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago is Founder and CEO, Teny Gross.
Join NAMI Chicago for our much-anticipated Light the Darkness gala, a night dedicated to illuminating the path toward mental health awareness and support. Attendees will experience an inspiring evening filled with hope and community spirit. We will be honoring four outstanding leaders: Dr. Ngozi O. Ezike, Representative Lindsey LaPointe, Chicago Public Library, and the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. Together, we will raise crucial funds to support mental health initiatives, ensuring that no one faces their struggles alone.
